Sector Overview - PERFUMES AND COSMETICS

The global perfume & cosmetic trade (export + import) has decreased to USD 420.27 billion in 2020 decrease of 1.7% compared to 2019 which was USD 427.59 billion. The perfume & cosmetic trade represented 1.2% of total global trade.

Dubai perfume & cosmetic trade (export + import) has decreased to USD 4.01 billion in 2020, a decrease of 10.86% compared to USD 4.49 billion in 2019. Dubai perfume & cosmetic trade represented 0.95% of the total global perfume & cosmetic trade.

Dubai perfume & cosmetic exports were AED 3.93 billion in 2020 which accounts for 2.35% of Dubai export.  

The top exported products were: Perfumes and toilet waters (HS Code: 330300), Soap and organic surface-active products; in the form of bars, cakes, moulded shapes (HS Code: 340111) and Cosmetic and toilet preparations (HS Code: 330499).

The top export destinations were:  Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, Iraq, Egypt and Kuwait.

Dubai perfume & cosmetic imports were AED 10.76 billion in 2020 which accounted for 1.57% of the total Dubai imports.  

The top import products were: Perfumes and toilet waters (HS Code: 330300), Cosmetic and toilet preparations (HS Code: 330499) and Odoriferous substances and mixtures; (HS Code: 330290).

The top import origins were: France, USA, Germany, Italy, and UK.

Dubai perfume & cosmetic re-exports were AED 8.06 billion in 2020 which accounted for 2.45% of the total Dubai re-export.

The top re-export products: Perfumes and toilet waters (HS Code: 330300), Cosmetic and toilet preparations (HS Code: 330499) and Hair preparations;  (HS Code: 330590).

The top re-export destinations were: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Sultanate of Oman, USA and Iraq.

Note : Forecast from 2020 based on historical values. It’s taking into account the latest available global trade development forecasts published by United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), which expect the value of global trade to finish the year 2020 at about 9% below the level of 2020 due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, they predict merchandise trade to grow at a rate of around 7% in 2021. From 2022 on, the global average growth rate is forecasted to be at around 3-4%.
