Sector Overview - MINERAL PRODUCTS

The global mineral products trade (export + import) has reduced to USD 3103.93 billion in 2020 decrease of 29.75% compared to 2019 which was USD 4418.66 billion. The mineral products trade represented 8.91% of the total global trade.

Dubai mineral products trade (export + import) has raised to USD 15.85 billion in 2020, a decrease of 28.57% compared to USD 22.19 billion in 2019. Dubai mineral products trade represented 0.51% of the total global mineral products trade.

Dubai mineral products exports were AED 7.45 billion in 2020 which accounts for 4.45% of Dubai export.  

The top exported products were: Petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals, not containing biodiesel, not crude, not waste oils (HS Code: 271012), Petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals, not containing biodiesel, not crude, not waste oils (HS Code: 271019) and Oils; petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude (HS Code: 270900).

The top export destinations were:  Kenya, Iraq, Japan, India, Oman and China.

Dubai mineral products imports were AED 50.68 billion in 2020 which accounted for 7.39% of the total Dubai imports.  

The top import products were: Petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals, not containing biodiesel, not crude, not waste oils (HS Code: 271012), Oils; petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude (HS Code: 270900) and Petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals, not containing biodiesel, not crude, not waste oils (HS Code: 271019).

The top import origins were: India, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Libya.

Dubai mineral products re-exports were AED 8.47 billion in 2020 which accounted for 2.58% of the total Dubai re-export.

The top re-export products: Petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals, not containing biodiesel, not crude, not waste oils (HS Code: 271012), Petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals, not containing biodiesel, not crude, not waste oils (HS Code: 271019) and Petroleum bitumen; obtained from bituminous minerals (HS Code: 271320).

The top re-export destinations were: Pakistan, Iraq, Djibout, Mozambique and Tanzania.

Note : Forecast from 2020 based on historical values. It’s taking into account the latest available global trade development forecasts published by United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), which expect the value of global trade to finish the year 2020 at about 9% below the level of 2020 due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, they predict merchandise trade to grow at a rate of around 7% in 2021. From 2022 on, the global average growth rate is forecasted to be at around 3-4%.
