Visa Requirements

Passport:

Passport required.

Document Validity:
Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for the period of intended stay.

Admission and Transit Restrictions:
Passports must be machine-readable to enter.
This does not apply to visitors with a valid visa.

Additional Information:
Passengers arriving from Guinea, Liberia, Mali and Sierra Leone at Bangalore (BLR), Chennai (MAA) ,Cochin (COK), Delhi (DEL), Hyderabad (HYD), Kolkata (CCU) or Mumbai (BOM) are subject to enhanced passenger screening and medical checks.

Visa:
Visa required.

Visa Exemptions:
Passengers with an "Overseas Citizen of India" card or booklet.
Passengers with a "Person of Indian Origin" card.

Visa Issuance:
E-visas can be obtained before departure at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/. Passengers using their e-visa for the first time must have:
- a passport with at least 2 unused visa pages, and
- a printed confirmation of the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). 
The Immigration officer stamps the e-visa in the passport with the expiry date of the visa and the number of entries allowed.

Additional Information:

Medical attendant visas are valid when traveling together with a passenger visiting India for medical purposes.

Indian visa stickers have no seal/signature from the issuing authority. Exception: This does not apply to passengers with a Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card.

Valid visa stickers and e-visa stamps in expired passports are accepted if accompanied by a valid passport of the same nationality.

Valid e-visas (Electronic Travel Authorizations- ETA) issued against a passport that has expired are accepted if accompanied by a valid passport of the same nationality.

Visa extensions possible, except for "T" (tourist) visas and Transit visas. Exception: This does not apply to passengers with a Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card.

India does not permit dual nationality for nationals of India. An Indian national with dual nationality must contact the embassy/high commission for further information.

Visitors must have a permit when visiting protected areas.

Warning:

Passengers of Pakistani origin (those born in Pakistan or whose parents or grandparents were born in Pakistan) with a multiple entry Tourist Visa (type T), with a validity ranging from above 3 months and up to 10 years, are required to have at least 60 days between visits. Information: Those wishing to re-enter before the 60 days have expired must contact an Indian mission abroad to obtain permission. Travelers intending to make side-trips to neighbouring countries as part of the same journey, should submit details of their complete itinerary, with supporting documentation, such as reservations, to an Indian mission or to the immigration officer upon initial entry into India, to obtain permission for multiple entries as part of that journey.

Visitors are required to register with the Foreigner's Regional Registration Office within 14 days of re-entry.

Effective from 31 March 2020, passengers with a Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) Card will not be allowed to enter. They must change their PIO status to Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) status before 31 March 2020.

Passengers with an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card younger than 20 years must have both passports when the passport number in the OCI card does not match the one in the valid passport.

Passengers with an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card 50 years or older must have both passports when the passport number in the OCI card does not match the one in the valid passport.
